Alan Traynor Consulting Engineers were employed by Finesse Medical to provide the Civil and Structural Engineering services for the renovation and extension of an existing industrial unit at the IDA Business Park, Ballinalee Road, Longford. The works involved the complete removal and recladding of the existing building along with a new 4550m2 extension to the side and rear of the building.

The finished building will have the capacity to house 2 No. Cleanrooms to produce pharmaceutical products along with storages areas for finished products. The building also has mezzanine areas to house mechanical and electrical plant, an ESB substation and a water storage tank and pump house to service sprinklers within the building.

The extension structure was formed utilising structural steel portal frames. Ground conditions on the site were poor so a pile and ground beam solution were used to carry the new structural steel frame extension. A pile supported fibre reinforced floor slab was also utilised.

The Civil Design services included Foul, Surface Water and Waterman calculations and detailing. The surface water was carried out in accordance with SUDS and GDSDS including attenuation to reduce the overall surface water flow from the site.
